Press release.

We have decided to remove the video from our social media platforms. We apologise for any offence caused. Please be aware that none of the Sweet Dreams team were at the Student Union meeting where these issues were raised and none of us were involved in the making of the video. We hope you all understand that we are not, in any way, condoning smaller sized models, we were simply using the resources available to us. Please find the press release below that was released to the public yesterday:

'In response to a viral video that has surfaced today 26th February 2013, which shows a concerned student of the University expressing his worries over the issue of models sizes for the Sweet Dreams Fashion Show we have put together this press release to clarify the controversy surrounding the matter. In the video, the student and Ethics and Environmental Officer speaks about his distress over a poster that was released at the end of January by the Sweet Dreams Team which entailed details of model castings that were to take place on the following week. He states ‘it is unacceptable and unethical to use models only sized 6 to 12’. As a team of year 2 female students we understand this is a global dispute and it is not something we are trying to promote.
The posters detailed the date and time of the casting as well as the appropriate sizes of the girls which would fit the clothes that we had been provided by the University (these clothes did not surpass a size 10). There were a minimal number of posters displayed around Avenue campus which were taken down within a few days of receiving reports from the Ethics and Environmental Officer that he was not pleased with the information provided regarding model sizes. Since then, several posters were put up in its place which did not display dress sizes and any further advertising we have produced has again not discriminated against sizes.
With regards to his concerns over the dress sizes we have since sourced clothing from Oxfam that are of various sizes ranging from size 6 to 14 and any models that will be involved in the show have volunteered themselves and have not been discriminated against for any reason.
We would like to thank everyone who supported us at the meeting and in general since the video has surfaced, including those on fashion courses and fellow students who have become aware of the debate. We are grateful that the Vice President of the Student Union pointed out that the speaker did not have the relevant facts and did not consult us as a team or the University before raising it to fellow students. We feel we have to respond as we do not wish our event to be associated with such negativity over a sensitive topic.
We invite anybody who would like to speak to us any further about this matter or anything else with regards to our fashion show. Please contact prandmarketing-fashionauction@hotmail.co.uk and we will be happy to answer any questions.
We will be contacting the Officer to speak to us about the issue raised in the video and hope that this debate is resolved quickly and efficiently.'
